With mangalasasanams from HH Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji, JET USA California Chapter successfully completed Dhanurmasam Puja for a month from Dec 18th 2017 to Jan 13th 2018
THiruppaVAI sevakalam & Goda Ranganatha Puja
The start of Dhanurmasam (Dec 16th 2017) is marked by the entry of the Sun into the zodiac sign of Sagittarius (Dhanur Rashi). This change from one rashi to another is called Dhanuh Sankramana, hence the name Dhanurmasam for this period. Dhanurmasam is also referred to as the Margasirsha or Margazhi month. About 5000 years ago Goda Devi chose this month as appropriate to fulfill her divine desire. She imitated the Kathayayani Vrata of Gopikas for one month. Each day Goda Devi (Andal) composed one song and submitted to the lotus feet of the Lord. In 30 days she offered 30 songs in the form of a wonderful garland to the Lord. These thirty songs or pasurams are collectively called Tiruppavai. At the end of the vratam, Lord Sri Ranganatha appeared to Vishnu Chittha and ordered him to give Andal in marriage. The Lord sent a palanquin to bring Goda Devi. In this month worship of Lord Vishnu during the morning hours is considered highly auspicious. Goda Ashttoram, Tiruppalliyezhuchhi, Tiruppavai etc. are chanted during this period. We imitate Goda Devi and perform vratam to get the grace of Lord Sri Krishna and conclude Dhanurmasam with Sri Goda Ranganatha Kalyanam on Bhogi day.
Monday December 18th 2017 to Saturday Jan 13th 2018
With blessings of HH Sri Sri Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji, JET USA California celebrated by giving devotees two unique opportunities for devotees. Hosting Sri Andal Goshti at their homes to perform Thiruppavai Sevakalam in the morning and perform Goda Ranganatha Puja with pravachanam in the evening. During the sevakalam goshti, Goda Devi and Sri Ranganatha deities would come to their homes and be hosted by the devotees. Sriman Venkatesan Iyengar Swami would go to their homes and sing Thiruppavai Pasurams and perform the sevakalam. Archana and harathi would be done. A lot of devotees in the Bay Area availed these opportunities to invite Go:da Ranganatha with all their parivaram to their homes.
