Dhanurmasa vratam, initially performed by Sri Goda Devi (incarnation of Mother Earth) for 30 days, is a tradition being followed for thousands of years now. It is performed to obtain the ultimate grace of the Supreme Lord Srimannarayana.
On the 27th day of the vratam Sri Goda Devi sang the pasuram "Koodarai Vellum Seer Govinda" to the Lord. Sri Goda Devi vowed to offer a delicious prasadam called "Akkara adisal" (made by boiling rice with milk, jaggery and ghee) and offer to the Lord in Thirumal Irum Cholai in 108 gangalams (vessels).
Delighted by Goda Devi's vratam, Lord Sri Ranganatha (Sri Krishna) married Goda Devi on the concluding day of the vratam in Sri Rangam temple. After the celestial wedding, Sri Goda Devi entered the sanctum sanctorum of Sri Rangam and got unified with the Lord.
It was only after 3000 years that Swami Ramanujacharya realized Goda Devi's vow and thus fulfilled it by offering 108 gangalams of "Akkara adisal" to Lord Sundararaja in Thirumal Irum Cholai. Sri Goda Devi in the deity form, pleased with this action addressed Swami Ramanujacharya as her elder brother.

His Holiness Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji is universally and unequivocally revered to as the incarnation of Swami Ramanujacharaya by all acharyas and scholars in the lineage of Swami Ramanujacharya. It is the first time that during the auspicious month of Dhanurmasam, Swamiji is visiting USA. We are very blessed to celebrate the “Koodarai Utsavam” (27th day of Dhanurmasa vratham) in Bay Area California in the glorious presence of Swamiji. On this special day, Swamiji will personally offer 108 gangalams of specially prepared “Akkara adisal” to the Lord.

Participating in this "Koodarai Utsavam" is very auspicious, and considered to fulfill all wishes. We welcome one and all to join us in this divine celebration and receive the “Akkara adisal” prasadam in gangalams directly from His Holiness Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji. His Holiness will also be elaborating the benefits of participating in the "Koodarai Utsavam" before the distribution of the gangalams.
